Melanie was born and raised in a settler family on unceded Coast Salish territories and has always lived in East Vancouver. She loves grey skies, picking salal berries with the myriad beloved children in her life, and any time an eagle lands in the neighbour’s fir tree (making the ridiculously undignified noises that it makes). Melanie did her undergrad in literature and history, spent some wayward years in art school, and completed her MDiv at Regent College in 2011. She loves engaging children in sacred story, and children’s picture books are way high up on her list of favourite things, but also (and especially) Mr. J.R.R. Tolkien, and a somewhat obscure book on the history of Stanley Park by Jean Barman, Stanley Park’s Secret. She is most content when telling, reading, acting out or listening to good stories. Borrowing the language of the ancestors and of this present and particular place, to the Creator Melanie says, Domine Deus noster, miserere nobis and Chen kw'enmántumi.
